Choose by the abilities and restrictions you want
The Steam store describes three primary character archetypes that you can commit to or mix. For choosing a waveform, the most useful published distinctions are the project lead’s 27 October 2026 mechanics reply and the earlier Low Vibration demo rework. The comparison below is editorial guidance drawn from those sources, not a tested ranking of the best class.
| Your priority | Waveform to consider | Sourced trade-off and version |
|---|---|---|
| Access to the High waveform’s exclusive Psionic abilities | High Vibration | Project lead, 27 Oct 2026: some exclusive Psionic abilities. This does not make all Psi or all weapon abilities High-only. |
| A melee-focused start | Low Vibration (Strength) | Official demo patch, 22 Jun 2026: simpler basic melee, separately charged power punch, and this class’s melee working in duels. |
| Corpse eating and mutation-specific abilities | Chaotic Vibration | Project lead, 27 Oct 2026: exclusive mutation interactions, but completely locked out of weapon upgrades. |
What can be mixed, and what remains exclusive
In that single October developer reply, Exaltation levels stats and your chosen waveform can receive additional synergy upgrades. The lead distinguishes Chaotic-specific abilities from Mutation-tree abilities other characters can also access. High has some exclusive Psionic abilities; Psi also powers weapon abilities purchased with Exaltation from the skeleton man.
Mixing therefore does not mean every exclusive ability or upgrade is available to everyone. In particular, the same reply explicitly locks Chaotic out of Weapon Upgrades. If weapon upgrading is central to your plan, that stated restriction is the clearest reason to consider another waveform. The reply does not provide a complete cross-waveform unlock chart.
The store’s permission to mix is not evidence of a respec or refund feature. Neither that store description nor the cited mechanics replies supplies a respec procedure, exact point costs, or a numerical best build.
When the upgrade systems become available
A second project-lead reply on 27 October 2026 says these systems open up once you get onto the train and can cash in Exaltation and Mutations. It answers a player comparing the older demo with Early Access. Two replies by the same person in one thread are one discussion source, not independent corroboration.
- 1. Pick the waveform whose stated ability access and restrictions fit your priority in the comparison table.
- 2. If progression seems unavailable before the train, continue to that point; the developer identifies boarding it as the unlock point.
- 3. Spend Exaltation on the stat or ability choices that serve that priority. For the separately sourced fist-parry milestone, use the qualified Strength 2 guidance on the Strength page.
- 4. Check an upgrade’s requirements before committing resources. Mixing does not override the stated Chaotic weapon-upgrade restriction, and the sources do not establish a way to refund points.
Keep older demo advice separate
The official 22 June 2026 “Last Patch Before Early Access” reworks the Low Vibration (Strength) start in the demo. Its heal-on-kill change from 30 to 50 belongs to that rework, not a universal benefit of choosing a stat. The full text is in the official Steam news API, item 1835871199313095.
The June 2024 Strength discussion predates that rework. Its author mentions having used a recommended Wits start; that is not a documented current-build recommendation from the project lead. The four visible replies do not substantiate a named class roster or a numeric point-allocation guide. For the sourced melee changes and progression limits, continue to Strength or parry.

Questions
What is the best class in Divine Frequency?
The cited sources do not rank a best class. Consider High for its exclusive Psionic abilities, Low for the documented melee-focused rework, or Chaotic for its mutation interactions if you accept its weapon-upgrade lockout. This is a comparison of sourced trade-offs, not a tested tier list.
Can you mix Divine Frequency classes?
The store says you can commit to an archetype or mix, while the project lead describes some exclusive abilities and a Chaotic weapon-upgrade lockout. Mixing does not establish a refund or respec feature; those procedures are absent from the cited sources.
